BAKEL began with a journey. In 2023, a trip to Afghanistan led to an encounter that would shape the foundation of the brand—a discovery of Afghan kilim rugs, their bold geometries, rich textures, and the stories woven into each piece.

This moment marked the beginning of Jeanne's pursuit to celebrate these extraordinary textiles. What started as curiosity quickly evolved into a deeper appreciation for kilim rugs, not only as objects of beauty but as expressions of heritage, craftsmanship, and identity.

Jeanne's passion lies in maximalism: an appreciation for layered interiors, meaningful objects, and the richness of spaces that tell a story. Her approach is instinctive rather than prescriptive, mixing influences from travel, fashion, and home styling to create spaces that feel both curated and lived-in.

Driven by this perspective, BAKEL aims to bridge contemporary aesthetics with ancestral techniques. The brand brings together Jeanne's vision with the traditional craftsmanship of Afghan kilim rugs, creating pieces that transform interiors into personal sanctuaries.

Beyond BAKEL

We are committed to contributing to the betterment of communities in Afghanistan, particularly in supporting education for young girls. We pledge to donate 5% of all sales from our rugs to charities that are dedicated to this cause. While we are yet to formalise a partnership, we are currently reaching out to suitable organisations to assist us in this endeavor.Our goal is to establish at least one formal partnership by the end of the second quarter of 2024, ensuring that our contributions effectively support these critical educational initiatives.
